Tips For Potty Training

Potty training your child doesn't have to be difficult.  In fact, with a little help from PottyTrainingStore.com, it can be easy and FUN

1.) Start with the essentials

You'll need a potty chair and a reward system first and foremost.  Providing  your little one with their own personal potty will give them a sense of entitlement and get them excited about learning to potty on their own.  The more fun they have, the easier it will be.

2. ) Set a date and time to begin potty training

Choose a time of day that can be dedicated to teaching your little one how to potty that will not be interrupted.  We all know how easily children can be distracted so once you've got them engaged, it's important to keep them focused on what you're saying.

3.) Explain how things work

Pretend you have no knowledge of how your bodily functions work or for that matter, how to control them.  How would someone explain it to you that would make it easy for you to understand?  When your child has to go, tell them that it's time to go and make potty.  Explain that when they feel that feeling, they should hold it long enough to walk to the potty, sit down and begin to use it.

4.) Use dolls to show your child how it's done

Even Dr. Phil says that using an anatomically correct doll that wets helps you to demonstrate to your child how to go potty.  We recommend our Potty Patty or Potty Scotty dolls that drink and wet on demand.  They come with a potty, baby bottles, training pants and a free potty training book.

 5.) Use books and DVDs

Fun materials like this help your child by seeing other children learning to potty.  It shows them that lots of other kids are learning to potty train too and they'll want to be part of the "club".

6.) Reward your child when they do a good job

This is a key step.  Giving praise when your little one successfully goes potty gets them excited and makes them happy for doing a good job.  We feature the award winning Pottie Stickers brand reward system.  Among many other awards they were named Best New Potty Training Product by judge Donald Trump.

7.) Graduate to the real thing

Once they start to grasp the concept of using the potty on their own, help them graduate from the potty chair to a real toilet.  We have many potty seats that are perfect for helping your child make the transition.  We feature designs that are not only fun, but more importantly safe and comfortable for him or her.

8.) Use training pants

Be sure to have big boy or girl training pants to help make the conversion from diapers to regular underwear.  We have several styles to choose from for girls and boys that are easy to put on and pull off.  They're also super absorbant to prevent messy clean up when accidents happen.  We have both daytime and waterproof night time styles available.

9.) Smile :)

Last but not least, make potty training FUN.  If your child sees you being enthusiastic during the learning process, they in turn will also have a good time learning to potty train.  They grow up in the blink of an eye so enjoy this and every other step along with way. :)
